Horry County Hit-and-Run Car Accident Kills One, Teen Driver Charged

A 17-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal Horry County hit-and-run car accident that occurred on January 18. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the teen was on Nichols Highway around 2:30 a.m. when she attempted to go around an ambulance that was stopped at a wreck on the highway. As the 17-year-old tried to pass the emergency vehicle, she hit a pedestrian standing near it. The 48-year-old pedestrian was killed in the accident due to multiple traumas. The teenager then continued to head south on the highway, fleeing the scene. She was eventually pulled over and taken to a detention center. Police Officer Involved in Fatal Bishopville Accident on Administrative Leave

A police officer that was involved in a Bishopville fatal car accident has been put on paid administration leave, according to the Bishopville Police Chief at a press conference on January 19. The 25-year-old police officer was traveling north on US 15 on January 17 in her patrol car with her lights on, but no siren, when she collided with another vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man heading southbound. The 24-year-old driver was killed in the collision. The police officer suffered injuries in the collision and was treated at Tuomey Medical Center. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team. The Bishopville Police Chief did not comment on whether it was protocol for officers to have their lights on but no sirens at the press conference, due to an internal investigation. Little River Man Charged With DUI in Longs Car Accident

A 20-year-old Little River man has been charged with a felony DUI in a Longs car accident that killed a 27-year-old woman on January 12. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) reported that Austin Cedar was driving eastbound on Highway 90 around 6:15 a.m. when he crossed into the westbound lane and hit a Chevy Cruze head-on, killing the 27-year-old driver. Cedar was arrested on January 15 in connection with the crash and was charged with felony driving under the influence, death results. Cedar suffered injuries in the accident and was arrested after being released from the hospital. At the time of this report, he is being held on a $50,000 bond. According to Carolina Live, Cedar had a history of traffic charges, including charges for driving on the wrong side of the road, unlawful operation of an unsafe or improperly equipped vehicle and possession charges from July 2011.
