Drunk Driver Sentenced in Fatal Accident

A 34-year-old Loris man has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and causing the death of a passenger in his car. The tragic crash occurred in North Myrtle Beach, during the early morning hours of February 16. Police reported that the suspect was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 17 when he struck two oncoming vehicles at around 3 a.m. The collision forced the two cars to crash into a white truck. One of the cars, a Hyundai, had two people inside that required professional extraction by firefighters. The drunk driver’s passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed in the accident. Preliminary autopsy results showed that the young man died from multiple forms of trauma.
