Head-on collision on interstate results in fiery collision and death

Proffitt & Cox recently represented the estate and family of a woman who was killed when a drunk driver traveling on the wrong side of the interstate struck her car head-on. The woman’s car burst into flames after the collision and she died at the scene. Her husband, who was driving a truck and following her as the couple moved to another city, came upon the late-night wreck a few minutes after it happened.

With Proffitt & Cox’s help, the estate and family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the drunk driver and restaurants where he had been drinking earlier that night. In the dram shop action, the estate and family alleged the restaurants had continued to serve alcohol to the driver when they knew or should have known he was already intoxicated.

The case was successfully resolved at mediation and a substantial settlement was paid to the estate and family.
