A 17-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal Horry County hit-and-run car accident that occurred on January 18. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the teen was on Nichols Highway around 2:30 a.m. when she attempted to go around an ambulance that was stopped at a wreck on the highway. As the 17-year-old tried to pass the emergency vehicle, she hit a pedestrian standing near it. The 48-year-old pedestrian was killed in the accident due to multiple traumas.
The teenager then continued to head south on the highway, fleeing the scene. She was eventually pulled over and taken to a detention center. The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that she was charged with hit and run, duties of driver involved in an accident and reckless homicide resulting in death.
Drivers that recklessly disobey the rules of the road by not yielding to emergency vehicles or otherwise, deserve to be held responsible for the accidents and injuries they cause. Filing a lawsuit cannot take away from the pain of losing a loved one to a negligent driver, but you could receive compensation that could pay for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and other damages from a car accident. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help you determine who is at fault for your accident and get the fair compensation you deserve.
